Roux

A good Roux is the basis of many recipes in Cajun entrees including, Gumbo and Stew. This recipe is free to use.

1 1/2 Cups Flour
1/2 cup of Cooking oil

Stir flour and oil together in a skillet (black iron if you have one). It will be the consistency of a paste. Cook on a low fire stirring constantly. It will gradually turn darker as you cook it. If it starts to turn dark too soon lower your fire so that it does not burn. When it reaches deep brown in color remove from fire and cool completely.

Note: It may take a few tries to get it just right. Making a roux does take practice. Do not get discouraged if it does not come out the first time.

My Recipes for Free

Everyone loves a good home cooked meal every now and again. We all seem to live on the fast track most of the time so moments with our families and friends are special ones -- and if your family is anything like mine, gathering for a meal at the same time is rare but precious. So I have gathered our favorite recipes and will be posting them here as well as on my main site.

Being from Louisiana, I have many Cajun recipes as well as some Southern food recipes. I will also throw in some low carb and sugar free favorites as well. And let’s not forget that a good meal is not complete without Dessert.

So grab your apron and Bon Appetit!

Please Note:

These Recipes are all free to use. I only ask that you not gather and use them anywhere else online.
